Monday night the Senate overwhelmingly approved an $80 billion annual increase in military spending. That would boost the cost of the military to around $700 billion.

Senator Bernie Sanders has officially introduced a bill that would eliminate undergraduate tuition. Titled the “College for All Act,” the bill would eliminate the $70 billion dollar tuition costs at all 4-year public colleges and universities.
Under the Sanders proposal, the federal government would pay 2/3 of the cost, or $47 million, requiring the states to underwrite the balance.

So for the cost of an increase in military spending, the US could provide tuition-free education entirely, even with no backing from the states.
